New Start have written to us to draw attention to their current appeal for donations of furniture and household items to help those who are homeless or living in poverty in our area. New Start was originally established through local churches coming together as a response to these needs, and thanks to support from the Highland community they are able each day to help people who are homeless or without the basic essentials to make a house a home.
They have shared the response of one individual who had received a starter pack – “I cannot put into words how much I appreciate all the wonderful goods which I received from you at New Start Highland. The thought and effort, and I believe love, with which you put all the things together was amazing – even down to the dishcloth and washing up liquid! I will never forget how much you helped me at the hardest time of my entire life. Thank you”
New Start will collect furniture and household items in order to help local people in need, or to sell in one of their shops where profits earned support the social work they do. New Start’s Housing Support Officers work to help families and individuals who are at risk of losing their tenancy, while their Training and Employability service works one-to-one with people helping them learn the skills to get back into work after a period of unemployment, focusing not just on the practical skills required for the job, but also on the interpersonal and social skills required in today’s modern workplace. A poster and some flyers are available at both doors.
