Message for November
Ramblings from the Rev
The theme of the Book of Revelation in particular and the whole Bible in general is that the Lord God reigns from heaven, on earth, to the ends of the universe and throughout all eternity (Rev 19:6). This reality struck me in the following contexts:
In Point- I officiated at Point Free Church Communion services 2 weeks ago where 2 neighbouring and separate congregations for 50 years are coming together in unity and fellowship out of love for Jesus. Divisions which have been perpetuated for various reasons over the years are being dissipated and dissolved as the Lord God reigns from heaven, on earth, to the ends of the universe and throughout all eternity and brings a unity and peace which honours Him and serves as a marvellous witness to Him (Jn 17:23; Ps 133:1-3)
In Presidency- As the USA elected Donald Trump to the Whitehouse this week as the head of state, head of Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed forces, becoming, arguably, the most powerful man in the world, I thought of this truth also. This event has caused a great deal of consternation amongst many, many people in the States and across the world, but the Lord God reigns from heaven, on the earth, to the ends of the universe and throughout all eternity. Daniel 2:21 reminds us ‘God changes times and seasons; he sets up Kings and deposes them’. Donald Trump is ultimately answerable and accountable to the Lord and we should pray for him in this.
In the Persecuted Church- The same theme was made crystal clear as I listened to 3 speakers at the Barnabas meeting in Smithton this week. A very large crowd gathered to hear stories of persecution, brutality and oppression at the hands of Islamic fundamentalists which represents the reality for millions of Christians across the globe. In Rev 6:10 the slain of God cry out ‘How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?’ Each speaker reminded us that the Lord God reigns from heaven, on earth, to the ends of the universe and throughout all eternity.
In Personal circumstances- In every circumstance of our lives it is good for us to remember this same truth. Jesus is our Lord God on the throne who reigns from heaven, on earth, to the ends of the universe and throughout all eternity and our trust and hope is in Him.
