UCCF: The Christian Unions is a fellowship of students, staff and supporters that exists to give every student in Great Britain an opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Christian Unions (CUs) are led by students, involving people from different church backgrounds, seeking to share the gospel on each university campus. They are supported by Staff Workers and Relay Workers, and from August I will become a Relay Worker in Edinburgh.
Relay is a mission and discipleship training scheme for graduates run by UCCF. Its focus is on developing Christ like character through an understanding of God’s grace, serving alongside the CUs as they seek to take the gospel to the universities of Great Britain, and receiving training that will help me keep living and speaking for Jesus for the rest of my life.
University is a time when many people are seeking truth and are open to discussing their beliefs. Through evangelism events, apologetics training, purposeful prayer and Biblical teaching, Christian Unions equip students to speak effectively for Christ and provide a range of opportunities to do so. The Lord is blessing this work throughout the UK and drawing students to himself through the witness of Christian students and wider CUs.
It was a joy to see this during my time at Edinburgh University and I loved being involved with the CU there. I am excited about supporting students in mission next year at Napier University and at Heriot-Watt’s Galashiels campus. Please pray for continued blessings in these universities.
As part of the Relay programme, I am responsible for finding a team of supporters who will pray and give financial support so that I can take on this role in the coming year. I am very aware that I really need God’s help to make the most of all the opportunities for growth this year, and in the ministry of sharing the gospel with students. I hope that, as my church family, you will consider becoming part of a team of people who will pray for me and the students throughout my year on Relay. I’d love to send you my monthly prayer letter which will give you an idea of what the work involves and how you can pray for me. If you would like to receive this, come and speak to me or email email@example.com.
The programme runs from the end of August to June. My living and ministry costs should be around £8000 for this ten month period. This is the equivalent of 20 people giving me £10 each month, 15 people giving me £20 per month and 10 people giving me £30 per month. Please speak to me or pick up one of my support leaflets (by the lane door) if you would be willing to contribute in this way. It would be greatly appreciated!
I hope many of you will be willing to partner with me in this ministry and I look forward to chatting to you more about it over the coming weeks.
With love in Christ,
